Klein and Sayandev Mukherjee jul 2004 Lucent Technologies Inc. The authors propose a system which determines channel throughput achievable under superposition coding and adapt transmit power, constellation and superposed signal in order to maximize channel throughput. They assume that the channel can reliably support at least one of the rates in the pre-determined rate set with an arbitrarily small probability of decoding error. They provide a mean to the constrained optimization problem which yields to an algorithm that optimizes both the subset of transmission rates that ought to be used, and the power allocations to the various rates and the corresponding noise power levels. ====== EP1683385-B1 ====== * EP1683385(B1).pdf * US20050094675(A1).pdf * WO2005043844(A2).pdf Method, apparatus, and system for data transmission and processing in a wireless communication environment Naga Bhushan and Raul Hernan Etkin feb 2004 Qualcomm Inc. The authors propose a communication system which schedule two users based on the indications of signal quality and send two data packets: one where user two is superposed on user one and a second packet where user one is superposed on user two. By that way they improve the link quality of both links. ====== US20040166869-A1 ====== * US20040166869(A1).pdf * WO2004075470(A2).pdf Controlled superpostion coding in multi-user communication systems Rajliv Laroia and Junny Li and Murari Srinivasan feb 2004 Flarion Technologies Inc. The authors describe a multi-user wireless communication system using superposition coding for downlink and uplink transmission. To obtain the benefit of the superposition, assignments of channel segments to multiple wireless terminals is controlled by the base station. Moreover, in the downlink case, the transmission power levels are very different to facilitate superposition decoding. In uplink transmission, power levels are controlled by terminals them-self to make sure that the received signals from the different devices at the base station will have different received power levels facilitating superposition decoding. ====== US20070195907-A1 ====== * US20070195907(A1).pdf * WO2007089110(A2).pdf Method of transmitting and receiving data using superposition modulation in a wireless communication system Shu Wang and Young Cheul Yoon and Sang Gook Kim and Li-Hsiang Sun and Soon Yil Kwon and Suk Woo Lee and Ho Bin Kim and Byung Kwan Yi feb 2007 LG Electronics Inc. The authors propose to rotate the superposed modulation in order to maximize the distance between outer points of the superposed constellation. This concept has also been presented in an IEEE802.16m contribution by LG. ====== US20070223374-A1 ====== * US20070223374(A1).pdf System and method for relaying signal in a communication system Petar Popovski and Hiroyuki Yomo and Elisabeth De Carvalho and Kathiravetpillai Sivanesan and Do-Young Kim and Don-Seek Park and Sung-Kwon Hong mar 2006 Samsung Electronics Co. The authors propose to transmit superposed data to a relay when base-station is transmitting its message to a terminal. They describe a mechanism to select optimal AMC mode for transmission between source node and destination node but also between source node and relay node. They claim that this scheme can be used for OFDM and CDMA systems, that data and preamble can be encoded by that scheme if far user and near user transmission overlap. They describe a specific implementation for HSDPA scheduler and they describe what modifications need to be done in the PDCCH format to handle superposition coding. They also provide details about HS-SCCH and HS-DSCH modifications. ====== US20070286238-A1 ====== * US20070286238(A1).pdf * WO2007123366(A2).pdf Method of configuring multiuser packet and a structure thereof in a wiereless communication system Shu Wang and Sang Gook Kim and Soon Yil Kwon and Young Cheul Yoon and Li-Hsiang Sun and Suk Woo Lee and Ho Bin Kim apr 2006 LG Electronics Inc The authors propose that energy affected to each layer of the superposition coding scheme can be re-allocated to upper-layer without prior knowledge of the remaining access terminal. If a lower-layer transmission is early terminated because it need less retransmission, its initially allocation power can be used by upper-layer in order to improve their link quality. This implies that terminal may try to detect its signal level blindly assuming all possible combinations. ====== US20070291867-A1 ====== * US20070291867(A1).pdf System and method for superposition coding and interference cancellation in a MIMO system Farooq Khan and Jiann-An Tsai and Cornelius Van Rensberg apr 2007 Samung Electronics Co.
